Signing in with a passkey

Face ID, Touch ID or your device PIN instead of an emailed code.

A passkey lets a device sign you in with Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello or its PIN. There's nothing to type, and nothing anyone could trick you into handing over.

  1. 1Open Sign-in and security in Settings.
  2. 2Choose Add a passkey and follow what your device asks.

If you signed in more than 10 minutes ago, we email you a code first. A passkey is a lasting way in, so we check it's really you adding it.

Passkeys saved to iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager show Synced: they work on your other devices signed in to the same Apple or Google account. To remove one, use the bin beside it. An emailed code always works too.
